Marin Housing is pleased to announce a job opportunity for a highly motivated, social service professional to provide service coordination to the older adults of Marin County.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Service Coordinator will be responsible for assuring that Public Housing older adults and people with disabilities are linked to needed supportive services in the community. Responsibilities include: outreach, providing information and referrals to other community services, programs and resources; serving as a liaison for coordination of services; answering telephone calls, emails, or other inquires; and providing timely documentation of the information and service referrals.


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE 


Knowledge of:


  • Social services and other resources in Marin County;
  • Medical and service needs of older adult individuals and people with disabilities;
  • Principles and practices of outreach and engagement, interviewing, assessment, supportive listening, and counseling;
  • Problem solving techniques;
  • Data collection practices;
  • Housing options for older adults.


Ability to:


  • Engage with older adults and people with disabilities and assess needs in an effective, courteous, and tactful manner;
  • Assist older adults and people with disabilities to identify and access needed community programs and resources;
  • Coordinate and partner with community-based organizations to host information sessions for residents to promote community services;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse and multi-cultural groups;
  • Independently analyze situations, make effective referrals to services needed, and take appropriate action within established guidelines;
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships; and provide excellent customer service.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Property Management to support tenants.
  • Document engagement and interactions with tenants;
  • Learn and follow contractual obligations and manage reporting requirements for HUD grant.


Applicant must possess a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving history. A current DMV driving history report obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles must be submitted with the completed application. Applicant must be able to drive a cargo van to community events and housing complexes and have the ability to lift up to five (5) pounds.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

 

Equivalent of a four-year degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, public administration, gerontology or a closely related field and two years of professional social services experience including one year working closely with clients providing direct services.

The Housing Choice Voucher and the Public Housing programs have been rated either as a high performer or a standard performer for the past few years. We serve thousands of people through a wide range of programs and services, including public housing for families, seniors and the disabled; housing choice vouchers (Section 8); supportive housing services for special needs populations; rental assistance payments; and financial and technical assistance for moderate-income first-time homebuyers and low-income homeowners.

COMPENSATION / BENEFITS

Annual salary range is $$55,445.05 - $74,301.66. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes a generous monthly allowance for medical insurance; dental, vision and life insurance premiums are covered by the authority; CalPERS retirement 2% @ 62; a 457 deferred compensation plan; 12 paid sick days per year; 10 days paid annual leave per year for the first two years, and will progressively increase as years of service increase (up to 30 days per year); 45 paid floating holiday hours per year; and 13 paid holidays. Other benefits include: FSA accounts, 457(b) plan, tuition reimbursement policy. Finally, the Housing Authority has 9/80 schedule available to employees, which, upon supervisor approval, allows eligible employees to have every other Friday off.
