Shelter Plus Care Program

Marin County Shelter plus Care Program is a housing subsidy program for individuals who are chronically homeless and suffers from qualifying disability.  The Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Marin County Behavioral Health and Substance Use Services.  Participants pay approximately 30% of their income towards rent, and receive ongoing supportive services by the case managers from Marin Housing Authority.

Who is eligible?

Homeless according to at least one of the below definitions (Priority will be given to those who meet Chronically Homeless definition according to HUD)

• Has been chronically homeless because she/he has been continuously homeless for a year or more or has in the last 3 years been homeless for a cumulative total of 12 months.
• Is living in transitional housing for homeless and originally coming from the streets or an emergency shelter.
• Currently sleeping in a place not meant for human habitation or in emergency shelter or in hotel/motel paid for by community organization.
• Exiting an institution where she/he has resided less than 90 days and having resided in an emergency shelter or in a place not fit for human habitation prior to entering the institution.​

First Step is to get a referral from Coordinated Entry: Start Here

• Must be referred by Coordinated Entry
• Inter-agency referral form needs to be filled out by County Behavioral Health workers with qualifying disability

What is the Service Offered? 

Our case managers will offer clients a monthly to weekly meetings which focuses on addressing the needs, providing support, and help clients achieve their own goals.
