Voucher Payment Standards

Effective Date: January 1, 2024 (Annual Reexaminations)


The Housing Authority of the County of Marin (MHA) has established the payment standards to be 110% of the 2024 Fair Market Rents (FMRs) effective October 1, 2023.

Security Deposits

MHA may assist the family with the Security Deposit. Owners are allowed to charge Section 8 Voucher Certificate holders the same Security Deposit rate that they charge their unassisted tenants in accordance with state and local laws. The Security Deposit charged may not exceed double the monthly rent of the unit. The requested deposit amount will vary with each owner. 


Important note: The rent on the selected unit must meet the rent reasonableness test and be comparable with the unassisted units for the area. The family's initial portion of rent cannot exceed 40% of the family's adjusted monthly income.
